Performing arts organisations across the UK can now apply for a new round of capital funding from the Wolfson Foundation to enhance training, rehearsal and education spaces. The fund supports projects that improve physical facilities through new build, refurbishment or specialist equipment, helping organisations boost audience engagement, participation and long-term sustainability.
Eligible applicants must be registered charities or local authorities focused predominantly on professional performance. Projects should clearly show how they will improve the quality of training or educational activities within the organisation. Major venues with strong artistic programmes can also be considered. At the same time, community and multi-arts centres are usually directed to other schemes such as the Theatres Trust Wolfson Theatre Improvement Scheme.
Grants start at £15,000, with typical awards ranging from £50,000 to £150,000, and match funding is usually required for larger projects.
Applications are made through a two-stage online process. Organisations first submit a short Stage 1 application outlining the project, costs, timetable and financial position. Successful applicants are then invited to complete a detailed Stage 2 application. The closing date for stage 1 applications is 5 January 2026. Organisations successful at this stage will have until 1 March 2026 to submit the stage 2 application.
This funding opportunity fits within the Foundation’s wider Funding for Places capital programme, which backs infrastructure across education, science, health, heritage and the arts. Interested organisations should check eligibility criteria and submit a Stage 1 online application to start the process.
For organisations seeking smaller targeted support, the Theatres Trust Wolfson Theatre Improvement Scheme offers capital grants up to £20,000 for themed improvements such as environmental sustainability.
