Do it Now Now has launched Round 2 of Innovate Now with Wellcome, a £1 million grant and capacity-building programme supporting Black-led research community initiatives across the UK.
The programme aims to provide sustained and accessible support for Black and Mixed Black heritage researchers, as well as the organisations and initiatives that support their careers. Funding is intended to help initiatives build capacity, strengthen leadership and governance, and increase their ability to improve opportunities and research careers for Black and Mixed Black heritage people.
A total of 45 multi-year grants of between £13,000 and £48,000 will be awarded. Successful applicants will also receive practical support to help strengthen their organisations and improve their long-term sustainability.
Funding is available at three levels:

Group 1: £13,000 over two years, for unincorporated or unregistered initiatives, sole traders, and registered initiatives with annual income below £10,000.

Group 2: £21,000 over three years, for registered initiatives with annual income of between £10,000 and £30,000.

Group 3: £48,000 over three years, for registered initiatives with annual income of between £30,000 and £150,000.
The programme is open to UK-based, Black-led initiatives with annual income of up to £150,000. Eligible applicants can include charities, Community Interest Companies (CICs), social enterprises, unregistered groups, sole traders, and university-affiliated or community-based initiatives.
Applicants should be majority Black-led and have demonstrable experience of supporting Black or Mixed Black heritage researchers or students.
At least one person involved in decision-making within the organisation or initiative must be a Do it Now Now (DiNN) member. Those who are not already members can join the Do it Now Now community by completing the membership form: bit.ly/dinncode.
Applications will follow a multi-stage process. Expressions of interest must be submitted by 27 November 2026.
