The Walk Wheel Cycle Trust has announced that the ArtRoots scheme is now open to communities in England for the first time.
Community groups, not-for-profit organisations, and individuals can apply for grants of up to £6,000 to support community-led art projects along England’s traffic-free National Cycle Network. The funding, provided by Active Travel England through the ArtRoots scheme, aims to encourage walking, wheeling, and cycling.
Established in 2017, ArtRoots offers standard grants of £2,500, with higher awards available for projects expected to significantly boost active travel.
Previously ArtRoots-supported projects include:
- temporary installations
- performances and events
- sculptures
- heritage signs
- information boards
- murals
The application process begins with an Expression of Interest, which closes on 31 August 2026. Applicants successful at this stage will be invited to submit a full application.
