Funding to Support the Human Rights Sector (Scotland)

Third-sector organisations seeking to protect and promote human rights can apply for grants of up to £150,000 over three years.

The Independent Human Rights Fund for Scotland is for organisations that take action to help realise and defend rights and tackle issues affecting people’s daily lives.

The Fund will focus on people whose rights are most at risk, such as those facing issues around poverty, housing, education, health, racism, and disability.

The type of work that could be supported includes:

  • work alongside communities or individuals
  • legal case work and advisory/individual advocacy services
  • third sector networking and capacity building, including support to individual human rights defenders
  • awareness raising, advocacy and campaigning
  • research and policy activity, including work on contributing to human rights reporting and shadow reporting
  • relevant media work with a clearly defined human rights focus

It is anticipated that between six and twelve grants will be awarded.

Organisations with an income of under £25,000 or over £250,000 per year need to apply in partnership with other organisations.

Collaborative applications are welcome.
