Funding Open for Low-Carbon and Community Resilience Initiatives (Scotland and South England)

The Scottish and Southern Electricity Networks (SSEN) is inviting applications to its Powering Communities to Net Zero Fund, which supports community-led projects that improve resilience and help reduce carbon emissions.

The fund, which is expected to distribute around £3 million by 2028, is open to charities, community groups, and other not-for-profit organisations located within SSEN’s electricity distribution areas in central southern England and the north of Scotland.

Grants typically range from around £1,000 to £20,000 or more, depending on the scale and nature of the project.

Funding is available through two funding streams:

  • The Low-carbon technology fund, which supports the transition to net zero, includes installing low-carbon technologies such as solar panels, battery storage, electric vehicle charging points, and low-carbon heating systems.
  • The Physical and environmental resilience fund for projects that enhance community resilience, for example, by improving community buildings, developing emergency plans, or providing equipment to support vulnerable residents during power outages or severe weather events.

Applicants are required to demonstrate clear community benefit, strong local engagement, and how their project will contribute to reducing carbon emissions or improving resilience.

The closing date for applications in the 21 May 2026.

SSEN will be holding two webinars during April to help you with your application to the Powering Communities to Net Zero fund.

These will be held on 1 April at 7pm and 21 April at 12:30pm.  To sign up for the webinars please visit the SSEN website (link below)
