Grants to Support Strategic Improvements in Scottish Museums (Scotland)

Museums Galleries Scotland has announced that its Museum Development Fund is open, with grants of £15,000 to £60,000 available for strategic development projects at Accredited museums in Scotland.

Museums Galleries Scotland is the national development body for Scotland’s museums and galleries, supporting the sector through funding, training and advice. The fund is designed to help museums make medium-sized, sustainable improvements aligned with their own business plans and Scotland’s museums and galleries strategy.

Eligible applicants include organisations that run Accredited museums in Scotland, accredited museums applying on behalf of partnerships, and formally constituted groups of museums that include Accredited museums. In limited cases, partner organisations working closely with Accredited museums may also be considered, subject to prior discussion with Museums Galleries Scotland.

Funding can cover up to 100% of project costs, although contributions from applicants or other funders are welcomed. Projects should deliver against at least two grant outcomes, such as stronger organisational resilience, environmental sustainability, improved collections care and access, workforce development, broader public engagement, or better wellbeing, learning and place-making.

The deadline for submitting an (optional) Expression of Interest is 3 June 2026.  The closing date for applications is 17 June 2026.
