Funding Available for Projects Tackling Poverty and Deprivation (Scotland)

The Volant Charitable Trust has announced that its Small Grants Programme is now open for applications.  The programme awards grants of up to £5,000 for one-year projects across Scotland.

The Volant Charitable Trust is a grant-making trust that supports charitable organisations and projects working to alleviate social deprivation, with a particular focus on women, children and young people. The programme is delivered through Foundation Scotland.

Funding is available to organisations with annual income below £350,000. The programme will support work addressing poverty and deprivation, and vulnerable groups affected by the cost-of-living crisis. Grants can be used for core costs and project costs, but not capital projects.

Examples of projects that may be supported include (this list is not exhaustive):

  • food pantries, community meals and healthy eating projects;
  • emergency support for vulnerable families in extreme poverty;
  • mental health support for people living in poverty;
  • support for women affected by abuse, domestic violence or exploitation;
  • counselling or outreach for vulnerable children and young people.

Current Volant grant holders cannot apply, and organisations cannot apply to both the small and large Volant programmes at the same time. Applications are made online. The deadline is midnight on Monday 5 October 2026, with decisions expected in early April 2027.
