The Highland Council has announced that the Nature Restoration Fund is now open for applications. Through the fund, grants of £2,000 to £25,000 are available for projects that restore nature, safeguard wildlife, and tackle biodiversity loss linked to climate change.
The capital fund is supported by the Scottish Government and aims to help deliver practical action for nature across the Highland Council area.
The fund is open to constituted community groups, public sector bodies, charities, voluntary and social enterprises, co-operatives, community ownership initiatives and development trusts.
Funding can support habitat and species restoration, control of invasive non-native species, surveys, monitoring, research, feasibility studies and management plans.
Previous projects funded has included:
- the creation of new wildflower meadow sites
- local tree planting initiatives
- areas of wetland creation or new wildlife ponds
- projects to remove invasive non-native species to enhance local habitats for protected species
Key points include:
- grants of £2,000 to £25,000 are available;
- funding is for capital projects only;
- up to 100% of project costs can be supported, although in-kind contributions are expected;
- applicants must provide an application form, recent bank statement, latest annual accounts and a Fair Work First policy statement.
No application deadline is given.
