Museums Galleries Scotland has opened its Small Grants Fund, offering grants of up to £15,000 to help museums in Scotland develop their work. MGS is the national development body for Scotland’s museums and galleries.
Funding can support small-scale projects, equipment and resources, and preparatory or scoping work for future development. Projects must contribute to at least one MGS grant outcome, including resilience, environmental sustainability, collections care, workforce development, wider participation or wellbeing.
Key points:
- Accredited museums can apply for £300 to £15,000.
- Non-accredited museums can apply for £300 to £10,000.
- Museums working towards Accreditation can apply for up to £3,000.
- Projects can receive 100% of eligible costs and must be completed within 12 months.
Applicants must operate museums in Scotland and meet Fair Work First requirements. Core running costs, routine maintenance, collection acquisitions and retrospective work are excluded.
Expressions of interest close on 7 October 2026. The application deadline is 5pm on 21 October 2026. Applications must be submitted through MGS Online.
