Funding Available for Projects that Benefit the Local Community (North East)

Charities, community groups and social enterprises in Tyne and Wear, Northumberland, County Durham and Hartlepool can apply for funding from the Sir James Knott Trust.

The funding aims to improve the lives of people in these areas, particularly through charitable activities that were of interest to Sir James Knott. These include military and maritime organisations, youth clubs, projects to help the elderly, and education and training.

The Trust often awards funding of up to £5,000 per year over three years, occasionally funding £15,000 per year over 3 years, but rarely more than that.

Faith organisations are also eligible to apply, as long as the activities are open to people of all faiths and none.

The Trust operates on a rolling grants programme. Applicants who miss a deadline will be considered at the following meeting. The next deadline is 20 February 2025.

Small grants (£1,000 and under) are processed outside of scheduled meetings and have an average turnaround of 6 weeks.
