Maintenance Grants for Disadvantaged Students to be Reintroduced (England)

The Department for Education has announced the reintroduction of targeted maintenance grants for students from low-income households in England.

These means-tested grants will provide financial support for disadvantaged learners on priority courses aligned with the government’s missions and the industrial strategy at Levels 4 to 6 under the lifelong learning entitlement, including technical qualifications and degrees.

Funded by a new levy on international student fees, the scheme aims to reduce financial barriers and improve access to higher education.

The policy is part of the government’s Plan for Change and will be implemented by 2029, with full details to be announced in the autumn budget.
