UK-based grassroots organisations can apply for funding in the third round of the Windrush Justice Programme. This funding is intended to aid their advocacy work for individuals attempting to claim from the Windrush Compensation Scheme.

The Windrush Compensation Scheme is a governmental initiative established to offer financial redress to individuals who suffered from the Windrush scandal, particularly those wrongly detained, denied legal rights or threatened with deportation. Launched in April 2019, the scheme aims to compensate for losses and affirm the rights of those affected.

The programme, which is being made available through Action for Race Equality, offers small grants of £22,000 (over two years) to help organisations cover the costs of caseworkers, administrative expenses, venue fees, and staffing costs.

To be eligible, applicants must be: 

• An organisation where at least 51% of your trustees/governing body are of Black, Asian or mixed heritage. 
• Already providing advocacy support to those seeking to access the Windrush Compensation Scheme 
• Based in the UK 

The Windrush Justice Programme was launched in response to the Windrush scandal, which saw British citizens from the Caribbean being detained, denied work permits, and even deported due to a lack of documentation. The programme aims to support those affected by the scandal, helping them navigate the complex process of applying for compensation and securing their legal status.

No application closing date has been given. However, the grant must be spent by 31st December 2025.
