Sustrans Scotland provides advice, support and funding for the creation of infrastructure that makes it easier for people to walk, wheel and cycle for everyday journeys. Through the Places for Everyone programme Sustrans provides funding and expertise to help deliver walking, wheeling and cycling improvements across the country.

The Road Safety Trust is an independent grant-giving trust which supports projects and research that make UK roads safer for all road users. The main aim of the Small Grants Programme is to improve road safety at a local level. Funding is available for projects that link to local priorities and show a proposed link to reducing casualties either directly or through clear interim measures. Eligible projects are pilots/trials, expanding successful trials across a new area, and/or the evaluation of interventions. Projects should have the potential for being brought to scale - with the ultimate goal of reducing deaths and injuries both locally and across the UK.

The Road Safety Trust is an independent grant-giving trust which supports projects and research that make UK roads safer for all road users. Each year the Trust invites applications on a major road safety theme, for 2020 the theme will be “How can technology be used to reduce road offending and promote safe driving?”. Major themed grants will be expected to focus on engineering, infrastructure and technological measures, while recognising the contribution of education and enforcement to these measures. Grants are available for up to two or three years, and these can range from £10,000 up to £200,000.

The eBike Grant Fund is a capital fund. A total of £1.14million has been made available, split into two streams, the ‘Community Fund’ and the ‘Public Sector Fund’. Funding from the Community Fund is available to community groups and third sector organisations looking for up to £75,000 towards projects that will provide opportunities to trial ebikes. Public sector organisations and local authorities can apply via the Public Sector Fund, for the purposes of providing fleets of pool bikes, bikeshare/hire schemes, and promoting large scale uptake of ebikes as an alternative to car and van travel. Up to £200,000 is available per application, higher bids will be considered on a case by case basis. It is the aim of the fund to support the uptake of ebikes for functional journeys, therefore this should be the focus for both funds.

The Energy Saving Trusts eBike Business Loan programme provides interest free loans of up to £30,000 to Scottish businesses to help lower their transport and travel costs. The loans are funded by Transport Scotland and have a repayment term of up to 4 years. The loans aim to support organisations that want to reduce their carbon impact and use more sustainable ways to travel. The loan will cover up to £3,000 per bike for new e-bikes, up to £6,000 for new e-cargo bikes and up to £6,000 for new electric adaptive bikes. If a non e-bike is more suitable to meet an individual's needs, applications can be considered by Energy Saving Trust on a case by case basis.

The fund was launched in November 2014 to provide £5million of funding over 5 years to support the work of charities that operate lifeboats and other rescue boats in UK inshore and inland waters. £1 million has been allocated to the fund for 2018/19 and grants are available to meet the costs of equipment and other items that support rescue operations (including flood rescue). Equipment supported by the fund last year included rescue boats and other craft, launch equipment and launch vehicles, personal protective equipment and other crew equipment. The Fund will not contribute more than 90% of the (ex-VAT) costs of these funded items. Applicants will need to demonstrate the ability to meet the remaining 10% costs.

The Rees Jeffreys Road Fund provides support for education and research in transport; and helps fund projects that improve the roadside environment for motorists and other road users. Funding is available to support education and research in transport. Proposals which have national rather than local application are favoured and particularly those which involve other funding partners. Education and training awards concentrate upon the award of bursaries to Transport Masters students but applications from other projects in this field are welcomed. Physical roadside projects are often those submitted by the Wildlife Trusts, but other such projects would be considered. Examples of previous funding include: Research on changes in road and rail travel trends in Great Britain; Cycling safety in London; Economic evaluation of road safety schemes; A Safe Drive Stay Alive film.

The aim of the fund is to incentivise and enable partnership working to help improve bus services, partnerships, standards and infrastructure for communities across Scotland. The fund will support and encourage all relevant authorities to take up partnership working to help increase the standard of bus services to increase patronage thereby achieving a greater modal shift.
