CashBack for Communities Programme (Scotland)

The Scottish Government has announced the upcoming launch of a new phase of the CashBack for Communities programme. This initiative reinvests assets recovered through the Proceeds of Crime Act to support young people aged 10–25 across Scotland. The programme aims to reduce antisocial behaviour and offending by providing positive opportunities and support.

A total of up to £26 million will be available for projects running from April 2026 to March 2029. Eligible organisations can apply for funding to deliver activities that:

  • Provide safe spaces and engaging activities to combat boredom and isolation.
  • Support young people in recognising their value and becoming community leaders.
  • Offer holistic support to vulnerable young people and their families.
  • Assist those already in conflict with the law to reflect and work towards positive futures.

Applications will be open to organisations such as registered charities, companies limited by guarantee or shares, and other non-profit entities. Local authorities and educational establishments in receipt of statutory funding are not eligible to apply.

The application process will open on 12 June 2025 at 10:00 am and close on 7 August 2025 at 12:00 noon. Detailed application guidance will be available from 19 May 2025. Information webinars are scheduled between 20 May and 3 June 2025, with registration details provided on the CashBack for Communities website (link below).

Projects supported through previous phases of the Cashback for Communities initiative have included:

  • Access to Industry – CashBack Polmont offers vocational training to young offenders in hospitality and construction, with many gaining qualifications like SQA Level 5 Barista and CSCS cards.
  • Action for Children – Positive Changes supports 14–24-year-olds in Glasgow, Edinburgh, and South Lanarkshire through a 10-week training programme, offering wellbeing qualifications and helping participants move into education or work.
  • Impact Arts – CashBack to the Future provides creative workshops in music, visual art, and performance for young people in Renfrewshire, developing artistic skills and boosting employability.
