Funding to Improve Local Green Spaces (Scotland)

Grants of up to £250 are available to volunteer groups for environmental projects that improve local green spaces in Scotland.

These grants are offered through the Volunteering Matters Action Earth Grants programme. They are funded by the National Lottery Community Fund and NatureScot, the Scottish Government’s nature conservation agency, which is responsible for protecting and conserving Scotland’s natural heritage, including its plants, animals, and habitats.

Projects must involve practical outdoor activity by volunteers and make environmental improvements to urban green spaces. This could include creating or improving community gardens, shared spaces, wildflower meadows, ponds, community woodlands, and other wildlife habitats.

Priority is given to applications from volunteer groups that do any of the following:

  • Work in areas where there is substantial social or economic deprivation
  • Improve and develop the health and wellbeing of their local community
  • Involve disabled people, vulnerable people and those at risk of exclusion
  • Encourage and involve people under 26 in practical outdoor conservation

A minimum of 15 volunteers must be involved in the project, each giving at least 5 hours of volunteering time.

Applications can be made at any time. Projects must be completed by the end of February 2026.
