Grant News
Public libraries across Scotland are being invited to apply for the Public Library Improvement Fund (PLIF), an annual programme designed to back creative and sustainable projects.
The scheme is managed by the Scottish Library and Information Council (SLIC).
PLIF projects need to have a direct link to one or more of the strategic aims of Forward: Scotland’s Public Library Strategy 2021-2025.
This year, priority will be given to projects which also support the following:
- Tackling mis/dis information
- Supporting democracy
- Tackling child poverty through support for attainment
- Support for family wellbeing
- Economic growth & co-production
Applications are open to Scotland’s public library services, with funding allocated to initiatives that demonstrate innovation, community impact and long-term value. Applications that are cross-sectoral, where library services collaborate with other services or organisations, and/or that involve co-production with local communities, are encouraged.
Recent funding rounds have enabled libraries to trial immersive technologies such as virtual reality, expand makerspaces, and pilot climate literacy programmes. Others have developed health and wellbeing initiatives, including bibliotherapy schemes, and invested in outreach models to connect harder-to-reach communities with library services.
There is no minimum or maximum amount for applications. Grant awards are normally for 12 months. Up to two applications per library service can be submitted.
Applications will close at 12 noon on 19th September 2025.
