New £7.5 Million Fund Launched to Support Communities (Scotland)

SP Energy Networks, which operates and maintains electricity transmission and distribution networks, has launched a new Community Benefit funding programme to support communities near its transmission infrastructure in Scotland.

The programme is being delivered in partnership with Localgiving. In its initial phase, £7.8 million is available to help community-led organisations deliver long-term social, economic and environmental benefits.

Eligible not-for-profit organisations can apply for grants ranging from £1,000 to £10,000. This includes charities, community groups and Community Interest Companies. Applicants must be based in specific community council areas close to SP Energy Networks projects. Eligibility will be confirmed using a postcode checker.

The fund aims to support a wide range of local initiatives, including:

  • Improving financial resilience and financial education

  • Supporting skills development and employability

  • Promoting social inclusion, digital access and wellbeing

  • Improving community buildings and shared spaces

  • Enhancing green spaces and access to nature

  • Supporting sustainable and inclusive transport initiatives

Funding will be awarded through two application rounds. The first deadline is 13 March 2026, with funding decisions expected by the end of May. The final application deadline is 8 May 2026, with outcomes announced later in the summer.
