Grants of up to £250,000 Available to Empower Scottish Communities (Scotland)

The National Lottery Community Fund has announced that applications are open to its Community Action programme in Scotland, offering grants of £20,001 to £250,000 for up to five years.

Community Action is aimed at Scottish community organisations and supports projects that help people connect with one another through inclusive, community-led activities or shared spaces.

Eligible applicants include constituted voluntary and community organisations, registered charities, SCIOs, CICs, not-for-profit companies, community benefit societies, and constituted groups or clubs.

Funding can cover a broad mix of revenue and core-related costs, including staff, training, transport, utilities, volunteer expenses and a share of overheads. Small capital costs are also eligible.

Projects must bring people together, support people affected by poverty, disadvantage or discrimination, and meet at least two outcomes around relationships, wellbeing, nature or the environment.

Example projects could include:

  • regular programme of activities that support wellbeing and help people connect
  • community kitchens, larders, pantries and advice or support services
  • community gardens or growing projects
  • environmental clean-ups, waste reduction activities or workshops on mending, repairing and upcycling

Applications begin with a discussion with the funder; eligible groups are then invited to apply online. Applications are accepted on a rolling basis, with no fixed deadline. Decisions usually take around 12 weeks.
