£5 Million Fund to Research Carbon Storage in Various Habitats (England)

Not-for-profit organisations, public bodies, and companies or other businesses registered with HMRC can apply for a share of £5 million in government funding to research carbon storage in a variety of newly-created and restored habitats.

The funding will support partnership-led pilot projects that achieve habitat creation and restoration in an area of at least 500 hectares in size.

The funding is made available through the Habitat Creation Grant, and administered by Natural England who will work with successful projects to carry out research and monitoring to compare carbon storage and uptake across different habitats of different ages, including native woodland, peaty pockets, hedgerows, heath, fen, and semi-natural grassland.

A minimum of 15% match funding is required.

The deadline for applications is midday on the 29th August 2022.
