Grant News
The Nuffield Foundation has announced £5.5 million in funding for research and innovation to help disabled people and people with long-term health conditions aged 50 and over remain in or return to employment.
Grants of up to £750,000 are available for projects lasting up to four years. Funding can support research, evaluation, innovative interventions, knowledge exchange, digital approaches and the scaling of effective practice.
The foundation is looking to fund activity in two areas:
- Extending what is known about effective approaches - Improving the evidence base for effective approaches to supporting people with long-term mental or physical health conditions or disabled people over the age of 50.
- Addressing barriers - Research and analysis on specific challenges faced by older disabled people and those with long-term health conditions staying in, or re-entering, work. This should lead to new insights that can inform action.
Applications are encouraged from multidisciplinary research teams working collaboratively with non-academic partners, including employers and employer bodies, employment support providers, healthcare professionals, and people with lived experience.
Projects may focus on physical or mental health conditions. Clinical interventions and existing service provision are excluded.
Outline applications close on 14 January 2027, followed by invited full applications in April 2027.
Funding will be split across 2 rounds. A second round is expected in Summer 2027.
