Funding Available to Help Charities Deliver Skills and Employment Projects (UK)

The Certification and Assessment Board for the Water Industries charity arm (CABW) has opened a new funding round for UK charities supporting young people aged 16+ and adults to enter employment.

The programme supports small- to medium-sized registered charities that deliver practical employability activities for people facing barriers to work. Funded activity may include skills development, accredited training, mentoring, confidence-building and access to work experience or jobs. CABWI is particularly interested in programmes that create pathways into the water, utilities, and construction sectors, though this is not a requirement.

Grants of up to £40,000 are available for up to 12 months. Organisations with an income under £266,666 can typically apply for funding of up to 15 per cent of their annual turnover. In contrast, charities with an income between £266,666 and £1 million may apply for the full amount. Organisations with an income of £1 million or more are not eligible.

Funding can be used for core costs such as staff salaries, utilities, rent, HR, etc, as well as project delivery costs or a combination of both, including Living Wage salaries. CABWI does not usually fund capital projects, participant wages, statutory bodies or overseas activity.

Applicants must be UK-registered charities with at least one year of filed accounts and a clear focus on measurable employability outcomes. Full eligibility criteria and application guidance are available on the CABWI website.

The closing date for applications is 26th January 2026.
