Grant News
The Department for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs has announced that the Farmer Welfare Grant is now open for applications, with £1.5 million available over the next three years to support projects improving mental health, wellbeing and business resilience across England’s agricultural sector.
The funding is intended to help rural and agricultural charities and third sector not-for-profit organisations deliver practical support that strengthens personal and business resilience among farmers, farming families and agricultural workers.
Charities and third sector not-for-profit organisations with experience of supporting farming communities are eligible to apply. For-profit organisations may be involved as part of a consortium led by an eligible organisation.
Priority areas include:
- tackling isolation and reaching those who are less likely to access or benefit from other support
- early intervention and prevention
- reducing stigma surrounding mental health issues and accessing support
- remove barriers to accessing support
- integration between farm safety, physical health, mental health, and business resilience
- suicide prevention
- supporting people who work with farmers, as well as farmers’ families and support networks
- engaging young farmers
- supporting culture, local identity and social connection
- business resilience advice and support
- support that builds skills, confidence and capacity within individuals and farming communities
Applications must be submitted by 12pm on 9 September 2026. Decisions are expected on 14 October 2026.
