Funding for Railway Line Nature Projects (South East - Various Locations)

Grants of £500 are available for youth-led projects that celebrate UK native plants and fungi at stations along the Southern Railway route.

Participating stations are Bexhill, Brighton, Burgess Hill, East Croydon, Haywards Heath, Hove, Lewes, Ore, Redhill, and Salfords.

Young people aged 18 to 25 living locally are invited to submit creative project ideas - from art installations to gardening or community events – to help transform these stations into pockets of nature, creativity, and community spirit.

What is available:

  • A £500 grant. This can be used for anything from materials, equipment, resources to helpful training. There is also an additional £500 from Grow Wild for station partner groups to support installation costs for the project
  • Support from the Station Partner Group, who will help deliver the project
  • Online sessions and resources from Grow Wild
  • Opportunities to connect with other participants taking part in Grow Wild on the Railway and see projects featured in a collective portfolio
  • The chance to complete Kew's Young Environmental Leader Award, designed to work alongside participant’s Grow Wild project and recognise their achievements

Ten projects will be supported. Projects will run from August to December 2025 in collaboration with local station partner groups.

This funding opportunity is part of Grow Wild on the Railway, a new partnership between Grow Wild (an initiative of the Royal Botanic Gardens, Kew), and Govia Thameslink Railway (GTR).

The application deadline is 3pm on the 16th July 2025.
