Grants of up to £10,000 Available to Raise Awareness of Windrush Compensation Schemes (UK)

Grassroots and community groups can now apply for grants of up to £10,000 to raise awareness of and address misinformation about the Windrush Compensation and Windrush Schemes. The grants are being made available by the Home Office through its Community Engagement Fund in response to the low number of people from non-Caribbean communities who have come forward to apply for compensation.

A total of £150,000 is available for this funding round.

Some nationality groups, including Bangladesh, Pakistan, Nigeria, Ghana and India, despite possibly having been impacted, are not coming forward for compensation to the Windrush Compensation Scheme.

The funding will be used to support projects that will:

  • Raise awareness of the schemes and the support available
  • Address any misinformation about the schemes
  • Encourage people from non-Caribbean communities to apply for compensation

Grants can be used to cover the costs of events, marketing materials, communications campaigns, and staff time.

To be eligible for a grant, groups must:

  • Be a grassroots or community group
  • Be based in the UK
  • Have a clear plan for how the funding will be used

The deadline for applications is the 30th August 2023 and projects must be completed by the 29th March 2024.

The funding is part of the Home Office's commitment to ensuring that all eligible people who were affected by the Windrush scandal are able to access the support they need.
