Grants of up to £800,000 Available to Maximise the Benefits of Existing Research (UK)

The Biotechnology and Biological Sciences Research Council is inviting proposals for its latest Follow-on Funding call.

A total of £2.25 million is available to help UK research organisation maximise the commercial, economic, and societal benefits of their research.

Awards are worth up to £800,000 of the full economic cost for up to two years’ work.

The funding will enable researchers to conduct activities essential to preparing a business plan and, where necessary, to secure further funding and support to progress the innovation.

Partnerships are welcome, but must be led by a principal investigator which currently or previously held BBSRC funding.

Projects previously funded through the Global Challenges Research Fund and Newton Fund funding opportunities would be considered eligible for FoF.

For grant applications must demonstrate that the proposed work programme:

  • is based on a sound understanding of the market need and opportunity that its product, service or technology aims to satisfy
  • is robust and designed to optimise the commercial, economic, and societal benefit derived from the grant
  • has a substantial link to previous research funding.

The deadline for applications is 4pm on the 4th October 2023.
