Entries Open for Fourth Round of Ofwat Water Breakthrough Challenge (England & Wales)

The fourth round of the Ofwat Water Breakthrough Challenge has opened to applications for initiatives that transform water and wastewater services through innovation and collaboration from within and outside the water sector.

Up to £40 million in funding is available through two streams:

  • grants of between £150,000 and £2 million are available through the £10 million Catalyst Stream which closes to entries on the 3rd January 2024
  • grants of between £2 million and £10 million are available through the £30 million Transform Stream, with first stage entries accepted until the 19th October 2023. Bids for more than £10 million may be accepted

Both streams are open to entries from water companies in England and Wales

Companies can partner or form a group with any organisation to enter. This could include:

  • gas and electric utility providers
  • universities
  • charities
  • SMEs
  • tech giants
  • local governments
  • community organisations
