£129 Million Scheme for Zero Emission Buses (England)

To improve air quality in towns and cities across England, the UK government is making funding available to help local transport authorities (LTAs) introduce zero-emission buses (ZEBs).

The £129 million Zero Emission Bus Regional Area 2 scheme will allow local authorities (outside of London) to bid for funding to purchase green buses, including minibuses, and reduce carbon emissions from local public transport.

There is up to £89 million available in financial year 23/24 and up to £40 million available in financial year 24/25.

The first £25 million will be reserved for proposals to introduce ZEBs in rural areas.

Priority will be given to applications from those that did not receive funding in the previous funding rounds.

There is no minimum or maximum size for bids.

LTAs must give notice of their intention to apply by emailing BUSES@dft.gov.uk by 4pm on the 20th October 2023.

The deadline for full applications is 4pm on the 15th December 2023.
