A new £3 million funding opportunity has been announced to support sustainable aquaculture innovation in the UK.
The funding is available to academia and industry partnerships to co-develop solutions to key innovation challenges impacting upon the sustainable growth of UK aquaculture.
Grants of between £200,000 and £750,000 are available for collaborative research and development projects, feasibility studies, and pilot studies that explore one or more of the following challenges:
- environmental sustainability and climate change
- gene editing and selective breeding
- species diversification
- production and handling technologies
- waste management and valorisation
- improving the health of farmed aquatic animals
- nutrition and feeding
The fund is open to applications from UK research organisations. All projects must have at least one project partner from industry.
Project partners must contribute a cumulative minimum of 10% cash or in-kind to the full economic cost (FEC) of the project.
The FEC of a project can be up to £750,000. 80% of the FEC will be funded.
Projects may be up to 24 months duration.
The funding is made available by the Biotechnology and Biological Sciences Research Council.
The deadline for applications is 4pm on the 14th November 2023.
