Up to £100,000 in Funding Available to Boost GCSE Attainment for Disadvantaged Pupils (England)

Impetus, a UK-based charity dedicated to transforming the lives of young people (aged 7-18) from disadvantaged backgrounds by ensuring they receive the necessary support to succeed in school, work, and life,  has announced a new funding opportunity aimed at organisations (predominantly in England) dedicated to enhancing educational attainment for disadvantaged young people.

Eligible applicants can apply for £100,000 in core, unrestricted funding for an initial one-year period, with the potential for extended support. This initiative seeks to fund one organisations that will use the funding to address the significant disparities in educational outcomes, where young people from disadvantaged backgrounds are 40% less likely to achieve a Grade 4 in GCSE English and maths compared to their better-off peers.

Beyond financial support, Impetus offers hands-on assistance from their Investment Team to bolster organisational capabilities for impact and growth. Grantees will also gain access to a network of pro bono experts, covering areas such as strategy planning, financial modelling, and legal support. Additionally, there are opportunities for training, networking, and co-learning with other partners, as well as participation in sector-based coalitions to influence policy and national discussions on youth issues.

To be eligible, organisations must be non-profits working to improve mainstream school attainment outcomes for students aged 7-18 from disadvantaged backgrounds in mainstream schools. They should be committed to helping these students achieve the expected standard in their SATs and/or a Grade 4 in GCSE English and/or maths, with an ambition to grow their impact using meaningful, benchmarked data.

Applications are open until 11:59 pm on the 17th April 2025. Interested organisations can verify their eligibility and access the application form on the Impetus website. An informational webinar is also available for prospective applicants seeking further guidance.
