Funding Available to Connect Archives with Local Communities (England & Wales)

The National Archives has announced that its Engagement Grants programme has opened to applications.

The programme offers funding for organisations to conduct outreach and engagement projects that will connect archives with their communities.

This year, the grants are themed around the concept of “Belonging”, with grants of up to £3,000 available for projects that use archives to help people and communities understand their place in shared histories, identities and local life, and to foster connection, inclusion and pride.

The funding is available to museums and other public bodies, registered charities and other not-for-profit organisations that hold collections in England and Wales.

Eligible costs include:

  • exhibitions
  • events
  • online or digital engagement
  • materials
  • staff time,
  • travel and subsistence
  • materials or software

The closing date for applications is the 19th January 2026.
